This is a Grand Traverse County Position
(covering Bellaire, Traverse City, & Suttons Bay)
POSITION: CIRCUIT COURT SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT: CIRCUIT COURT ADMINISTRATION
BARGAINING UNIT: CIRCUIT COURT ASSOCIATION
HOURS: 40 HOURS
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT/HOURLY
SALARY RANGE: $17.59 – 25.48
Job duties include all administrative functions related to the 13th Circuit Court. Employee may be responsible for one or more court functions, such as mediation, collections, case flow management, production of judicial documents or scheduling court proceedings. Work requires the exercise of judgment in the application of court rules, statutes and administrative orders, and requires frequent contact with judges, attorneys, litigants and the public. Ability to maintain confidentiality is a must. Employees are expected to support the principles of quality as established by the judiciary of the 13th Circuit Court and to provide responsive, effective, and quality service to those persons whom the Court serves.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Transcribe and type decisions, orders and correspondence.
Answer the telephone and assist the public.
Process incoming/outgoing court documents.
Alternative Dispute Resolution case management.
Collections case management.
Scheduling for the judges and referees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school including course work in office procedures, computers and word processing. Preferably three years’ progressively responsible experience as legal support staff.
SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday: 8AM – 5PM
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of legal secretarial practices, procedures, terminology and citations.
Required to utilize computer, e-mail, word processing equipment, multi-line telephone and calculator. Knowledge of English, spelling, punctuation and grammar with sufficient ability to draft proposed orders and correspondence for judges and court administrator.
May be required to travel to Antrim, Grand Traverse, or Leelanau Counties.
