The Village organic recycle area is located at the entrance to Shalda Park.
This service is available to residents of the Village of Empire ONLY.

Allowable items are:
Grass Clippings
Leaves
Branches under 3" in diameter
Garden Compost

Examples of unacceptable materials include rocks, stumps, dirt, plastics, and tree materials over 3" thick.

Village of Empire

The Village Council, at its regular meeting held on August 24, 2021 approved Resolution #9 of 2021 authorizing the use of golf carts on Village of Empire Streets.  The following conditions are required under the Michigan Vehicle Code (Section 257.657a) when operating a golf cart:

An Operator

  • Must be at least 16 and have a valid driver’s license
  • Must comply with signal requirements
  • Must ride as far to the right as possible
  • Is not required to wear a helmet

Golf Carts

  • Shall not be operated on sidewalks
  • May not pass between lines of traffic
  • May travel at a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour
  • May not be operated ½ hour before sunset to ½ hour after sunrise
  • Are only permitted to operate on streets within village boundaries
  • Shall not be operated on a major trunk line (M-72 or M-22) except to directly cross from one local village street to another local village street
