Visitation
The Leelanau County Jail utilizes a video visitation system that allows friends and family to remotely connect with inmates in the facility 7 days a week, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. It is the responsibility of the inmate and their friends and family to initiate this service and set up an account. Information on this service can be found at https://cidnet.net/friends-and-family-portal/#cidnet-ff-section.
On-site video visitation is also available for all inmates on Wednesdays between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Like the remote visits, these require the inmate and their friends and family to initiate the service and set up an account. In addition, these on-site visits must be scheduled ahead of time using the system service.
Inmates that are considered “inmate workers” have an additional on-site visiting day on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Inmates are allowed 1 (one) visit per visiting day lasting at least ½ hour. Attorney visits and pastoral visits DO NOT count as a visit on visiting day.
Money
Money can be deposited into an inmate’s account at any time, during or after business hours, or by mail. We DO NOT accept checks for deposit into inmate accounts, only cash, money order, or certified check. All inmates that are considered “indigent” (having less than $2.00 in their account for 14 consecutive days) and have used all items in their intake kit, can order necessary items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, paper, envelopes, etc.) weekly thru commissary and will be billed to their account. You may also deposit money online by visiting https://deposits.jailatm.com/webdeposits/.
Housing Fees
Inmates that have not yet been sentenced are NOT charged housing fees. Once sentenced, they are charged $40 for their first day and $15 for every day after until they are released. Inmates that qualify and are granted work release are charged $40 for their first day and $20 for every day after until they are released. Inmates that are sentenced thru Leelanau County Courts and are promoted to “inmate worker” status in the jail are relieved of paying further housing fees as long as they are on “inmate worker” status. Those inmates that are boarded from other counties are subject to the billing and rules from their boarding county.

Inmate Outdate & Release Information
Once an inmate is sentenced on all charges they are given an outdate. The outdate is calculated using all of the inmates time served on the charge (if applicable) and Sheriff's good time, which is one (1) day off for every six (6) days served (5 days per month). Sheriff's good time can be taken away if necessary (for write-ups, fighting, etc..). Inmates that are boarded from other counties are given an outdate by their county, NOT ours. If there are concerns with an outdate for a boarded inmate, his/her family/friends should contact the county in which they were sentenced.
Leelanau County inmates are required to make a down payment of 15% towards their total jail housing debt prior to their release. If they are able to make this payment, they will be released at 6:00am on their release date. If they are not able to make this payment, they will be released at 11:00pm on their release date.
*Note that Court fines and costs are separate from jail housing fees. Fines and costs are paid directly to the Court, and jail fees/debt is paid directly to the jail.*
Inmates boarded from other counties are subject to the release rules from their boarding county.
Medical Treatment
All inmates at the Leelanau County Jail will have access to medical treatment. All inmates will have a physical (if they will be in custody for more than 14 days), free of charge, by the jail's medical staff and can request to be seen if they choose to do so, but will be charged accordingly. Any inmate needing medications will first see the nurse or doctor on staff and medications will be ordered by the Leelanau County Jail Medical Authority.
